You already know that choosing a good password is really a pain in the back. First of all you should not write it down on paper so that nobody may find it on your desk, on the other hand if it's too easy for you to remember, it's also easy for a hacker to guess. But how easy is easy? How long would it take for a bad person to hack your password?
Some Online Applications and Web 2.0 tools use some kind of "password strength" meter when you choose your password at a registration pages. They usually use some kind of colored bar that is red if the password is "weak" or green when the password is "strong", but since we are all not that kind of mathematical cryptographic geeks, nobody really can tell what weak or strong means.
Yesterday I found a very useful web page that is running a small JavaScript application that you can even download a jQuery Plugin that you can use in your own web application. The website is: http://howsecureismypassword.net/ and you just type in a password in the text field to view how much time an average PC would need to crack this password.
The page provides links to download the JavaScript code and a jQuery plugin. Another link goes to a password guide where you can learn what a secure password is and how you can find a secure password that is also easy for you to remember.
