Podcasts for Teachers

Today I want to recommend some more podcasts that are dedicated to learning and education. The reason for this is, that I am currently having an online course "Podcasting for Teachers" at knowschools.ca for a group of K-12 Teachers, so this might be useful for them too.

Download the MP3-File here.

[More:]

The first is "Connect Learning" with David Warlick. David tells his audience about his experience as a teacher with the new web technologies blogging and podcasting. Here is just a quick quote from his website: "I have been a podcaster since January, 2005, but an educator since deep into the last century. Welcome to my microphone, and some outside the box ideas about classrooms, teaching, and learning in the 21st century." David do his podcast about once a month and it is usually 30 to 40 minutes long, sometimes it's shorter or longer than that.

Another Podcast that is dedicated to teachers is "Podcast for Teachers" not to confuse with my sample "Podcasting for Teachers" that I have set up on odeo.com for my online course. Here is a quote from their site: "Podcast for Teachers is a conversation about Education, Technology, and Podcasting produced by the Regional Educational Technology Center of Fordham University, Bronx, NY".

Podcast for Teachers is about 40 to 50 minutes long and it's published about 3-4 times per month.

I must say that both of these podcasts often suffer from a bad sound quality. So you have to choose if the topic of the episode is interesting enough to bear with that. If the topic interests you or your class, its well worth listening.

Another one is "Quick Technology Tips for Schools". The author Tom Sextro tells about technology that is useful for your school. You will get a lot of advanced technical information about Free Blogging Servers, or how to use encrypted VPN access for your school. So I believe this is for the more advanced listeners, but still useful for most teachers.

A podcast that you don’t want to miss is "School Of Podcasting's Morning Announcements" with Dave Jackson. Here you can learn all the tech stuff that you need to produce your school's podcast. Dave is talking about RSS-Feeds, how to record a Skype call or how to promote your podcast. This is also for the more advanced listeners, but if you are serious with producing your own podcast, you should subscribe to this podcast. You can listen to this podcast every Monday for about 10 to 15 minutes per episode.

Another tech related podcast for teachers is "Teach with Tech". Topcis range from "Tips for using technology in your classroom" to "What is Web 2.0?". Episode 7 is dedicated to "K-12 Podcasting", so you should browse thru the older episodes to find more interesting information for your school. It is published about once per month and an episode is usually 30 to 45 minutes long.

This is just a short selection of podcasts that I have subscribed in preparation for my "Podcasting for Teachers" course. There are much more that you can find if you just search for "K-12" or "K12" or "teacher" in the iTunes music store or in any podcast directory like odeo.com or podcastalley.com.
